2017 Refugio Ranch Petite Sirah, Santa Ynez Valley

Dark, full and delicious. Inviting plum, raspberry and violet aromas grab you. Round, rich and smoky with just-right firm tannin. Savoring a hint of vanilla in that long finish, you’ll be glad they didn’t waste this on blending. Do this Petite Sirah

Tasting Notes

95 pts - Vinous Antonio Gallioni

The 2017 Petite Sirah is dark and inviting. It is lifted from the glass with aromas of brandied cherries, raspberry, clove, dried orange peel, and a touch of wintergreen. The wine has great presence on the palate. Blackberry and cocoa, cherry liqueur, and vanilla bean. The tannins are dense and fine, layering in black fruits and baking spices with a rich and almost savory character. The finish is fresh and perfumed.

Fermented in stainless steel, and aged for 20 months in new and neutral french oak. The vineyard features Linne Clay Loam - this whitish gray soil contains limestone pieces beginning 18”-24” below the surface. The presence of limestone captures and preserves the freshness in this wine, and being a heavier soil lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.

What Divvy-Uppers are saying:

"Refugio Petite Sirah is delicious and your description is spot on"

"this ranks with the best of 2021. We purchased more right after our dinner!"
